How to find your refrigerator model number before buying a filter

The filter number identifies the cartridge. The refrigerator model confirms whether that cartridge actually fits your appliance.

Search the refrigerator cabinet—not the front badge

The model label is usually inside the fresh-food compartment, on an interior wall, behind a crisper drawer, on the ceiling, or on the cabinet frame exposed when a door is open.

  • Photograph the full label
  • Capture suffix letters and numbers
  • Do not use the serial number as the model number

Record both identifiers

Keep the refrigerator model number and the number printed on the installed cartridge. When both point to the same filter family, confidence is much higher.

Why suffixes matter

Manufacturers can revise filter housings during a product line. Two refrigerators with similar base model numbers may use different cartridge generations, electronic recognition or bypass plugs.

When the label is missing

Check the owner’s manual, purchase receipt or manufacturer account. If the evidence conflicts, contact the manufacturer with the serial number rather than forcing a cartridge.
